Maintenance
Dear customer, thank you for purchasing a LdP Recorder.
Here is some information about the right use and maintenance of your instrument.
During the first month of the life of your recorder it is very important to follow these instructions:
1) for the first week don’t play more then 10 or 15 minutes a day;
2) after this period, you can progressively increase the time without exceeding 30 minutes.
After the first month of breaking-in, you can oil the recorder using raw linseed oil thinned with 20% turpentine. Make sure that the wood is dry before oiling; normally after 12 hours that you have played. For this operation you can use a cotton cloth soaked in oil. Passing this into the recorder, you must be very careful with the head because you mustn’t touch the block ! Stay behind over 1 centimetre. After, put vertically the recorder’s pieces and leave that the wood to absorb the necessary oil to close the micro pores. About 10 hours after, you can dry the instrument with a clean cotton cloth. The oiling process improves the sonority of your recorder. Please, repeat this operation every two months.
The new recorder needs time to complete its revolution transforming the initial wood’s state into a musical instrument. The player must be aware of the importance to discover and develop the instrument’s possibilities. The maturity time depends also from the wood’s density: higher density more time. The recorder in granadilla wood needs more time that another one in boxwood or in maple wood.
